![]() – Brandin Tyrrel Astro's Playroom Review Score: 8 | Developer: SIE Japan Studio | Platform(s): PS5 From our review: Astro’s Playroom surprised and delighted me. But while it may not be the most stylish or polished, its rugged and brutal look at the muddy business of Scandanavian expansion is as memorable and dense as an Assassin’s Creed has ever been, and it makes great use of the new consoles. There’s also a bigger than usual horde of bugs and blemishes to contend with from start to finish. Fresh takes on several of the series’ established loot and quest systems help to keep the things fluid and nuanced, though progression could use refinement. It walks a fine line between historical tourism, top-shelf conspiracy theory, and veiled mysticism against the backdrop of a grounded and focused story. – Kyle Campbell Assassin's Creed Valhalla Review Score: 8 | Developer: Ubisoft | Platform(s): PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia, PC From our review: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a big, bold, and ridiculously beautiful entry to the series that finally delivers on the much-requested era of the Viking and the messy, political melting pot of England’s Dark Ages. But with a consistently engaging story throughout, Rebirth still stands as one of the most thrilling survival horror games in recent memory – one that is anything but forgettable. The areas where it clicks strike an excellent balance of problem solving and pure adrenaline, even if some of the later sections drag due to uninteresting puzzles and infrequent ghoul tussles. ![]() Kim Amnesia: Rebirth Review Score: 8 | Developer: Frictional Games | Platform(s): PS4, PC From our review: Amnesia: Rebirth beautifully tackles the battle between light and darkness, not just thematically but mechanically too. ![]() And while Vanillaware’s attempt at doing something different with combat by branching out into real-time tactics to portray its city-scale mechs-vs-kaiju warfare is commendable, the storytelling and rich characters undoubtedly doall the heavy lifting in making 13 Sentinels an enjoyable journey. This revival of classic sci-fi ideas hits all the right notes and goes deep without overstaying its welcome, even at over 20 hours long. 13 Sentinels: Aegis RIM Review Score: 8 | Developer: Vanillaware | Platform(s): PS4 From our review: Vanillaware games have always looked great, but 13 Sentinels is the first time the studio has put a bulk of its focus on storytelling.
